You've spent an AGE chosing your dress and flowers, arranging the tables, deciding where to put your guests, who to sit next to who...... what table arrangements you want..... but the chances are you've totally neglected the most important table of the day...THE TOP TABLE.
We've put together a little guide for you with common questions, to make your life a little easier.
WHO SITS ON THE TOP TABLE?
- Who ever you want! Forget the stuffy etiquette regime which existed in 1800, we're in 2011 now, and you have those who are special to you on the top table.
- BRIDESMAIDS? They don't HAVE to sit on the top table. Especially if they're married with family, chances are they will want to sit with their own ! TALK TO THEM and decide between you where they would /where you would like them to sit.
- PARENTS who are no longer couples.. HHmmmmm a difficult one. Again TALK TO EACH OTHER, we're sure that both sets of parents can be accommodated at different ends of a long top table. If they know how important it is to you, they'll put up with it, but chances are you havent TOLD them how important it is to you, so they won't know!
- BEST MAN and USHERS. If the best man is doing a speech its normal to seat him on the top table, but again we'd stress ITS UP TO YOU. We would see nothing unusual in a best man sitting with his family and getting up and standing near the Bride and Groom to do his worst on the speech!
-
BABIES. Even if its the Bride and Grooms baby, this needs careful management as an unruly baby at the top table can distract everyones eyes away from the happy couple. You may love them as much as the man you're marrying, but take an hour off being a parent to be the Bride! Know your kids, and only seat them on the top table if they're angels :-) If you DO have to seat them on the top table, we can hire you a chair cover to ensure it
doesnt spoil your immaculate look!Recently we saw a Top table where the Bride and Groom had decided to seat people each side of the table, so they had room for all the Bridesmaids/family etc. We were very surprised how well this worked!
What table decorations should we have on the top table?
Whatever you want! As a general rule, avoid any table arrangements which are tall being placed in front of the BRIDE AND GROOM, that is if you want to be able to see your guests. A "LONG AND LOW" arrangement is the traditional floral decor, it can take many many forms - all of which should be fashioned by YOU. Don't let your florist push you into a decoration you dont like or don't want. Insist on your choice. Even if its not "normal" - you deserve exactly what you want on the most important day of your life.... so far!
Below are a few examples of top table arrangements we've provided in the last 12 months. Whilst they may not all be to your taste, they are INDIVIDUAL and crafted to the requests of the brides.
